Inputting this “a bit” late. But from what I remember... Warm day with no snow in the ground. Hiked up from the Res and around Bear Swamp Lake.
Clear skies. 20 degrees. No snow on the ground but trail was icy in some spots. I took the Highlands Trail south from Townsend road in Ringwood. Followed the red trail when it split. Then orange to yellow. Bushwhacked to the green trail that leads to snake den road, weis center and the natural pool. Trees along the road back to my car. About 8 miles by my calculations. Had my dog nugget with me.
Reach the top and you’ll know why they call it Rocky Mountain. About an inch of snow on the ground. 21 degrees and sunny. Started from the Ramapo Reservation. All three lakes were frozen over. Went with my beagle Nugget and my parents’ pit/shepherd mix Lucy.
Hit Drag Hill after summiting Rocky. Walked up the pipeline and the bushwhacked down the SE side. Came across an awesome glacial erratic along the way. Phone was dead so no pictures of it from this trip. Will go back to mark the spotand snap some pics. Calling it the “Bunker Boulder”. Stay tuned...
Cold as hell. 11 degrees in the Stonetown Rec Area parking lot. Windy up top. The American flag on Windbeam is all torn. I’ll be back soon with a replacement.
