With a rare dual day off of work, we decided to run by and grab a hiking permit, even thought it's only good for 2 more weeks. Along with the dog, we walked the blue trail lakeside until it went past the rocks, then bushwhacked up to the woods road. We took that almost all the way to the summit, which required just a short (200' or so) whack to the top.
Took advantage of the hiking permit to knock out the 2nd of the three requiring it. Great hike, very leisurely ascent on well-maintained trails all the way to the fire tower. Didn't go up beyond the 2nd story, as the winds and cold were fairly brutal even a short way up the tower.
