40 degrees, ice falling off the trees from the prior ice storm. Beautiful lace effect with the frozen branches. No one else had been up since the last snow. Up the Blue trail and down the Red!
Absolutely beautiful day! Four inches of powder on the ground from yesterday, and a light flurry developing in the afternoon, my brother and I were the first ones on the trail this morning, taking the red out of Stony Pond lot in Stokes State Forest, and connecting with the yellow and then the AT for the summit. We then swung down the AT to the parking lot and down the road back onto our tracks where we had crossed the road headed up.
We encountered a shrew (?) after stepping on its tunnel, it safely found the entrance on the other side of the footprint.
Couldn't have asked for a better day!
