We parked in a pullout off of CR 513, and met up with the 4 Birds Trail. We walked up a boulder field to base of the cliffs, and tried to climb. This proved to be beyond our abilities. We traversed across boulders south to where the cliffs end. Here, we scrambled up a steep slope to the ridge-top and walked along the ridge for a while. Great view from the top of the cliffs. Walking back on the ridge, we saw two bears, maybe 15 feet from the trail. We took the 4 Birds Trail down.
We parked at the Long Pond Ironworks parking area, and followed the Highlands Trail up. Pretty straightforward. Great berries at viewpoints. We ended with a (possibly illegal) swim by the waterfall in the Wanaque River.
