Long Hill's summit can be reached by a long hike up on the Hewitt to Butler Trail.
Long Hill is a pleasant enough summit, but Manaticut Point and West Brook Mountain also offer interesting climbs and good views.
Some hikers may have difficulty finding the HB trailhead. The HB trail starts a few hundred feet downhill (east) from the Eagle's Nest Hunting Club's (750 West Brook Road) driveway. One must climb over a guardrail to get to the trail. The parking lot for the HB trail is a small two-car turnoff just uphill from the Eagle's Nest Club, on the south side of the road.
Started at Greenwood Lake airport and fed our curiosity in the remains of the Jungle Habitat. So much fun! With a short bushwhack we easily found the Blue blaze ridge trail and a pretty walk to the peak.
Last one! Parked at the Manaticut Point trailhead off of Crescent Rd and took the yellow/black trail to the yellow trail up to Manaticut Point. From there continued on blue/white for a few miles to the summit power lines. Just before the summit there was a washed out part of the trail so I bushwhacked around. Once at the summit I doubled back and took the trail down to Lake Sonoma and looped back to the car. It was a nice hike to end this challenge on.
Parked at the small pulloff on Westbrook Road and took the blue trail up to Manticou Point. Had to balance my way across the stream on rocks and logs from the start and this trail is definitely not very frequently used. It's steep, not super well marked, and has a few sizable blowdowns. Lots of ups and down from Manticou Point, but other than that smooth sailing. The power cut has a lot of thorn bushes.
Went up Long Hill through Jungle Habitat. Had the lady and the dog with me. Wandered around The meandering trails/roads on the way back. it flurries a bit while we were there.
Also, I created a map so you can view all of the NJ1K peaks in one place. Hoping that something like this can get added to the site eventually.
