Hiked the pipeline cut from the tower on Stag Hill, 1 mile north. Loose gravel made it a bit sketchy at points but it wasn't bad. The summit is a rock adjacent to the cut. Just south of the summit, which is the direction most of you will approach from, there's a little unmarked side trail that you can follow up to the rock without having to use hands.
Parked at Ramapo Reservation and headed for Bear Swamp Lake. I had a little bit of trouble; Ramapo Reservation has done a pretty substantial overhaul of their trail system since I bought my map so it was really out of date. Bought an online map when I got to an intersection that just didn't exist on my map.
Once I reached the intersection of the red trail near Bear Swamp Lake and the pipeline cut that goes to the summit, I decided to go for Drag Hill first because it looked like it was a longer climb than Rocky Mountain. It was a short but steep climb on pretty loose terrain. The descent down that same loose terrain was the hardest part of the whole day.
Took the pipeline up. Still a killer little climb, even with a road to trudge up. This was a little more than the half way point of a 6 hr (5:42) day from skyline dr. upper lot. This was as far north as the day took me. Headed south to the lot from here. I really should have Man-ed up and done this one when I came down on Red/Silver from Rocky Mountain. So Close!
