Took the same route as Hoosier did, though there is a better parking option if you start from the end of Green Hill Road in the gated community of Smoke Rise. Haven't tried this option and I don't even know if you can get past security.
I'm glad that I finished on such a splendid mountain complete with pitch pines (my favorite), viewpoints and rocky cliffs. It's been a long journey that has brought me to so many places I would never have otherwise gone to. Before I embarked on my quest for the 1,000 footers, my concept of hiking destinations in NJ was limited to the Kittatinnies. But over the past two years of exploring New Jersey's obscure hills, I discovered an impressive patchwork of public land: state parks and forests, wildlife management areas, county preserves, conservation easements, etc., all of which allow us to enjoy the outdoors.
