Description: Guerin Benchmark, formerly known as Mount Freedom High Point, is itself not the most interesting mountain, but it is part of a large, yet unsung, network of trails covering Randolph and Mendham townships. Many of these trails are covered with gravel and are graded for mountain bikes. The trails go through forest and field and offer many views. If you begin your hike from the Clyde Potts Reservoir a hike/bike to the summit requires over 500' of vertical gain.

The hiking-exclusive trail going to the high point's summit was built as someone's Eagle Scout project.

Summit Routes
  • Route Name: Mount Freedom In-and-Out -by- Eric Koppel
    Start: Millbrook Avenue PA
    End: Millbrook Avenue PA
Description: This is perhaps the easiest NJ1K hike. It's more like a walk in the park. Begin at the gravel parking area on Millbrook Avenue, just across the street from Freedom Park by the Randolph Museum. Follow the gravel trail uphill. After about a hundred feet or so, there should be a fork in the trail; go right. Soon you'll pass by newly planted oak trees and then a power line right-of-way. After a minute or so, you should reach the turn-off for the high point trail. Just before the trail starts heading downhill, you'll see a sign to the left indicating the high point trail. The summit, marked with a survey, is just a short jaunt along the stone-bordered high point trail.
  • Route Name: From Center Grove School -by- Ian Colquhoun
    Start: Schoolhouse Road
    End: Schoolhouse Road
Description: Starting at Center Grove Middle School, go down the sidewalk until you see an entrance for the Randolph Trails on your left. Cross the road and follow the trail about .5 miles until you reach an intersection. Make a left and about .25 miles, make a right onto the summit trail.
